John Cale, 1979, July 11th, Bookie’s Club 870, Detroit, MI - (The flyer attached shows this one, but the Bookie's data base doesn't(?)

Bookie’s Club 870 was originally called Frank Gagen's.
The club opened on December 22nd, 1958. The band leader/proprietor ran the club until 1966.
Samuel “Bookie” Stewart purchased Frank Gagen’s in 1970. While he kept the sign out front, the
matchbooks on the bar said “Bookie’s Club 870”. Samuel Stewart received his nickname, “Bookie”,
because he had been an illegal bookmaker during Prohibition. Punk first showed up at Bookie’s in
late 1978 and carried on until 1981 prior to his death in 1984. The club limped on from 1984 with
mostly hardcore acts until it burned down in 1990.

The parking on the side of the club reflected the Bookie's name...
